So after 8 years of blood, sweat and tears building our pizza business from scratch, the Left Handed Giant (LHG) have terminated our contract with them.
A few months ago they offered one of us (we are a partnership) a chef job within the LHG in return for handing over our business, Mission Pizza to them, we found the offer disrespectful and refused.
Whatever name they give to the “new food offering” they will be continuing to make Neapolitan-style vegan and vegetarian pizzas but all the actual pizza kitchen staff will be employed by the Left Handed Giant and it will be under their umbrella of organisations.
This is a business decision and they were well within their legal rights to have made it. They are a huge organisation with hundreds of shareholders and their ultimate goal is to make as much money as possible.
It does feel like a kick in the teeth after everything we’d put into building our reputation up and after everything we did to make the Brewpub work. We were told it would be 30-50 covers a day, we consistently do 400+. It has been a hard slog to get our kitchens to the point where we were finally at, where we had a confident team in place who loved what they do. But that is potentially why they have rolled out their decision at this time.
We may one day return to Bristol, our team (who all left with us and didn’t want to work for the LHG) are keen to continue Mission, so if anyone has a venue or idea we’re open to options. We do already have other partnerships in place that we are involved in, but outside of Bristol. We will let you know on Mission Pizzas Instagram (@missionpizzapies) closer to their start dates. We’re eternally grateful for what has been an epic ride.
